The Forrester predictions are fine, however I think that somewhere along the way Jobs will figure out how to get to the business level of production. I completely understand that Apple bills itself as a consumer electronic company first, however I also think that Jobs understands that if Apple needs to get at the level of sales & profitability of Microsoft, there needs to be an effort to drive the company towards business. This has evidence in the iPhone being more security and business ready now, which brings iPhone into another niche, a more profitable niche, where it can compete with big boys like the Blackberry.
Just my thought, what do other people think?

Picture frame and clock radio? I don't know why I expect more insight out of Foresters.

However, Nick, I think your own prognostications will prove more accurate. The iPhone as universal remote is on the money.

The mobile web is going to become the "everywhere local web" and the next huge thing, and your phone will become much more an all purpose mobile assistant than any smart phone or PDA on the market today.

I have personally been requesting RFID reader for a year now, and just this week Apple has put out a job listing to hire an RFID expert with mobile experience.

@Tom Stitt
>>>Why does Forrester only focus on potential for the (high risk) consumer electronics side of Apple’s business? What about Apple’s strong position in graphic design?

Because all the graphic design business in the world doesn't make up even a fraction of what Apple could earn if they continue their move into consumer electronics.

Kudos to Forrester for daring to go so far out on a limb. A "clock radio"! A picture frame! In 2013. How astoundingly visionary. Doubtless it will take 5 years for Apple to put its "own twist" on the lowly picture frame of today. After reading Forrester's prognosis, is Steve Jobs doubled over in pain or laughter?

Think Apple fridge, Apple stove, et cetera. On the mobile front, think Apple Mobile Audio. Your CD/mp3/dvd player will bear the Apple logo. Apple will be the center of your universe. :)

Why does Forrester only focus on potential for the (high risk) consumer electronics side of Apple's business? What about Apple's strong position in graphic design? My theory is that "shiny new toy" reports/predictions get read by the blogeratti while boring but more likely product scenarios in the business to business space, just don't get the same buzz.
