The primary hookup to the TV is via a modern type of cable called HDMI, for High Definition Multimedia Interface.

I have been ruminating on scenarios where Apple's vague announcements on 'product transitions' are tied to a significant upgrade of Apple TV with iPhone 2.0 capabilities to deliver a 'Web TV solution that actually works' so I still believe that someone is gonna get this one right, and wouldn't Apple's US iPhone exclusive partner, ATT, be a logical partner on the set top box side of their cable service offerings?

In any event, here is a link to post on the topic if interested:

I have tried these kind of devices from Roku, Apple, HP, Archos, Iomega, Linksys, and many others. All of them have their strengths and weaknesses, but that's life. One device is not going to make everyone happy, because people are different. Some more techincally-savvy go for the more flexible devices, those looking for convenience will look for just that, a service they recognize that does one thing well. Roku/Netflix is simple and does one thing well... and I would bucket AppleTV into that. Digital media adapters from Linksys, HP, Archos a lot more flexibility but require a little more technical knowledge and forgiveness. The great thing is that users can pick from many choices and it's not just an Apple world.

Consumers don't want another STB. Switching inputs is a hassle for many people, and they don't want the clutter of another box in addition to their cable box, dvd player and/or gaming system, and receiver.

We don't want walls either, like AppleTV and Roku have created. Who wants to buy a STB, only to have to pay more money for content that will only play on that box? I want content from a variety of sources and I want it work everywhere.
