Wow, that's outstanding. I've been enjoying all of those features, plus a physical keyboard and multitasking, on my Android powered G1 for quite a while now. I also heard that the new iPhone OS has a security flaw with SMS and an overheating problem. Bummer. Anyway, it's still quite stylish.

Yes the iPhone finally has cut and paste, but I'm not hearing many people talking about the fact it's a pretty limited implementation. The primary reason I used cut/paste on my old Treo was to copy numbers (phone numbers as well as conference call dial-in #'s) into the keypad. Palm OS has supported this for at least 5 years. While there's no denying much of the innovation that has gone into the iPhone, I'm a bit shocked they missed such a simple and logical use of cut/paste. Yes this is a powerful computing device, but at its core it is a PHONE. Cut/paste is of limited use if I can't use it in the keypad.

"The iPhone still lacks a physical keyboard"

It’s been two years and three iPhone iterations – it’s really time to get over this already – or at least to rephrase. “Lack” denotes that it is somehow missing a feature it is supposed to have. The iPhone doesn’t “lack” a physical keyboard – to the contrary. The touch screen keyboard was a design choice – one supporting myriad other functions and features – which is not going to change no matter how long you continue to treat the physical keyboard as an omission.

And if you're doing this for education’s sake, I think by now most are aware that multi-touch is one of the distinguishing features of iPhone, so you don’t need to keep pointing it out as if to someone just arrived from Jupiter comparison-shopping smartphones to facilitate his communication with humans. What iPhone actually does lack are the limitations of a physical keyboard, like portrait-landscape orientation switching and multiple language support. Perhaps Palm and RIM “lack” the flexibility that a touch screen keyboard affords. Ever look at it that way, Mossy?

While Mr Mossberg's article is right on. He failed to address how AT&T is sabotaging the sale of the 3GS. As an "Old Guy" I was so excited that I got up early on opening issue of the 3GS. When I finally in I was told that AT&T was subsidizing the $299 price tag and since I have only about 6 months on my contract, I could purchase the phone for $699. I nearly fell over. I called AT&T, but couldn't find anyone to confirm this. Hell, couldn't even confirm that AT&T was supporting these sales. Needless to say I DID NOT get a new phone.
